Classic Inferno

I made this really simple collage recently and it’s sparked some ideas. I love combining traditional with the unexpected. It makes we want to wear a fuchsia silk dress and drink earl grey and shortbread. In this manner I'm thinking of acquiring some neon eye shadow this week to shake up a classic black outfit.

A Dream Within a Dream - Edgar Allan Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Collage a day......

I have always had a great love for collage. I truly adore finding and gathering the imagery and materials to create such things. This is the first in many I plan to share with you of my more fleeting assemblages and collages. In the works are larger, more complex pieces, which I propose to sell on etsy later this year. I am currently looking for vintage/antique frames to pair with these. Joseph Cornell and Rebecca Horn have been of great inspiration to me. I strongly recommend these artists as a source of research to anyone interested in this medium.
